In British Columbia, the provincial Ministry of Environment regulates all hunting activities and provides a variety of information for hunters. Click here to access the Ministry’s online resource that provides all the latest news and information on hunting in the province.
Licenses and permits
To hunt migratory game birds (e.g. waterfowl) in British Columbia, you must carry with you a valid Canadian Migratory Game Bird hunting permit in addition to any required provincial hunting licence. The permit is available at any Post Office.
Resident hunting licences are available at all Service BCs’ Offices, and other commercial outlets and sporting goods stores. Non-resident hunting licences are available from Service BC Offices. Non-residents may also obtain their licences by mail from Service BC Offices www.servicebc.gov.bc.ca/locations/. Please note that non-resident licences are not available from commercial outlets and/or sporting goods stores.
British Columbia regulations
Be sure you review British Columbia’s Hunting & Trapping Regulations Synopsis which is updated annually, and is the official reference for all the information you need for safe and responsible hunting in the province. Click here for a downloadable PDF of the synopsis. Printed copies of the synopsis are available at Service BC offices, regional Ministry of Environment offices, and retail outlets where hunting licences are sold.
Remember that waterfowl hunters need both a provincial and federal license to hunt migratory birds. Learn more about Migratory Bird Hunting Regulations.
